Key Takeaways

Key Takeaways

  • BMW iX3 outsold Porsche Macan EV, Audi Q6 e-tron, and Mercedes GLC Electric in one month.
  • Achieve 434-mile EPA range and 463 horsepower from a 112-kWh, 800-volt dual-motor system.
  • Upcoming iX3 M60 xDrive delivers 603 horsepower and 400 kW DC charging, targeting performance buyers.

A newcomer beating entrenched rivals is noteworthy. Beating them with weeks on the market, in a single configuration, is something else entirely. BMW’s iX3 posted 1,101 U.S. sales during Q3 2026 — despite deliveries beginning only in September, compressing its sales window to roughly one month. That was enough to outsell the Porsche Macan EV (1,023 units), Audi Q6 e-tron (810), and Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric (341), according to Cox Automotive’s Q3 2026 Kelley Blue Book EV Sales Report. For a platform debut, that’s a real number.

One Month, One Configuration, Four Rivals Beaten

BMW’s iX3 outpaced its luxury EV competition before most buyers even knew it had arrived.

Within BMW’s own EV lineup, the iX3 ranked second — behind the i4 at 2,539 units, but ahead of the i5 (720), i7 (464), and the outgoing iX at 121 units, according to Cox Automotive. The Genesis Electrified GV70 (163 units) and Volvo EX60 (137 units) also trailed the iX3 over the same period. Its September-only sales window made that margin more striking.

By the numbers, here is what the iX3 50 xDrive brings to that fight:

  • 463 horsepower from a dual-motor system, with an EPA-estimated range of up to 434 miles on applicable wheel-and-tire configurations
  • A 112-kWh battery operating on an 800-volt architecture — the high-voltage foundation BMW plans to extend across future Neue Klasse models
  • Cox Automotive estimated 262,649 EVs sold in the U.S. during Q3 2026, the highest quarterly volume in a year
  • The iX3 M60 xDrive arrives next: 603 horsepower, 0–62 mph in 3.9 seconds, up to 400 kW DC charging, with U.S. orders expected from late January 2027
  • BMW has not disclosed a final EPA range figure for the M60

One partial quarter is not a trend. Production capacity, sustained dealer availability, and demand after launch enthusiasm fades will determine whether this becomes a genuine market shift or a strong opening weekend. Call it a promising pilot episode, not a confirmed series.

That said: 1,101 units — one configuration, deliveries beginning in September only — and BMW still beat Porsche.

The M60 shifts the conversation toward performance buyers, the kind who might otherwise look at a Porsche Taycan. A 603-horsepower variant is a different pitch than range and efficiency — and it broadens the iX3’s appeal well beyond its launch audience.

The Neue Klasse Bet Gets Its First Data Point

BMW’s platform overhaul just cleared its first real-world test — but one model doesn’t validate an entire strategy.

BMW’s first series-production Neue Klasse model — a full rethinking of design, software, and electrical architecture — has now produced an initial U.S. sales signal worth watching. One model, though, doesn’t validate a platform. Electric sedans and additional Neue Klasse vehicles will need to sustain momentum when novelty fades and established rivals adjust their own lineups.

The real test isn’t Q3 2026. When the M60 reaches lots in 2027, the competition has recalibrated, and launch-window buyers have moved on — that’s when you find out whether BMW built a platform or just had a very good month.
