Koenigsegg Just Shattered Another Speed Record
Koenigsegg's Jesko Absolut has done it again. The Swedish hypercar just claimed the unofficial record for highest top speed in a standing half-mile: 224 mph.
That's not a typo. That's physics being bent to Christian von Koenigsegg's will.
The Numbers That Matter
The standing half-mile sprint took just 13.27 seconds. For context, that's about how long most performance cars need to complete a quarter-mile. The Jesko Absolut needed half that distance.
This beast devours acceleration metrics with equal contempt:
- 0-62 mph: 2.79 seconds
- Quarter-mile: 8.88 seconds (quickest gas-powered production car)
- 0-400-0 km/h: 27.83 seconds (world record set June 2024)
Behind these numbers sits Koenigsegg's masterpiece of internal combustion: a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 generating 1600 hp and 1106 lb-ft of torque. Power routes through a 9-speed multi-clutch transmission to the rear wheels only.
No Hybrid Assistance Required
While electric hypercars like the Rimac Nevera still edge out the Jesko in quarter-mile times, they do it with instant-torque electric motors and all-wheel drive.
The Jesko Absolut accomplishes its feats with pure combustion engineering and rear-wheel drive.
No batteries. No front motors. Just Swedish engineering brilliance and E85 fuel.
The 300+ MPH Question
Koenigsegg claims the Jesko Absolut can theoretically exceed 300 mph. Computer simulations suggest 311 mph is possible.
We're still waiting for that run.
Finding a suitable venue presents the primary challenge. Most tracks simply don't offer enough straight-line distance for verification. Even NASA's Kennedy Space Center runway (where SSC attempted their controversial top speed run) presents complications.
The Jesko Absolut's half-mile record dethroned the previous benchmark set by Hennessey's Venom F5 (221.92 mph).
But perhaps more impressive is the Absolut's June 2024 performance at Örebro airfield in Sweden, where test driver Markus Lundh hit 412.72 km/h (256 mph) during the 0-400-0 km/h record run.
The Jesko Absolut doesn't just accelerate. It warps space-time while looking damn good doing it.
