Patent leaks have revealed what could have been for Alfa Romeo’s ultra-rare 33 Stradale supercar.
The images show an alternative design path from October 2022 – the first 1:1 physical model created during development.
Alfa Romeo’s PR chief Krystyna Perry confirmed these are legitimate patents filed by Centro Stile as part of their standard intellectual property protection process.
What Could Have Been
The leaked design differs substantially from what eventually made production.
Lower-positioned LED headlights give the prototype a more aggressive face. The side cooling intakes sit higher on the rear fenders, and twin exhaust tips emerge over the rear bumper instead of the quad-exit setup that made production.
The changes highlight the evolution from concept to final product – a process that ultimately delivered one of the most exclusive Italian supercars of the decade.
The Final Product Specs
The production 33 Stradale delivers performance worthy of its legendary namesake:
- Twin-turbo V6 with 620+ horsepower paired to 8-speed dual-clutch
- Electric variant offering 750 horsepower for the forward-thinking collector
- Sub-3.0 second 0-60 mph acceleration regardless of powertrain
- Maserati MC20 mechanical underpinnings with bespoke Alfa tuning
Only 33 units will ever exist. Each one already spoken for.
Design Philosophy
The 33 Stradale’s design journey reveals Alfa Romeo’s commitment to perfection. Multiple iterations were created before settling on the final design.
These patents represent an abandoned path – one that Perry explicitly states “do not serve as a reference for any future Alfa Romeo products.”
The Centro Stile team clearly took the responsibility of reimagining the iconic 1967 Tipo 33 Stradale seriously.
Every curve required justification. Every proportion needed balance.
The leaked design shows how even brilliant initial concepts get refined, reworked, and sometimes rejected entirely on the path to creating automotive art.
