Key Takeaways

The world's most exclusive Speedtail just left California for Japan. And its former owner couldn't care less.

Manny Khoshbin, real estate tycoon and hypercar collector extraordinaire, has parted ways with his one-off McLaren Speedtail Hermès Edition after receiving what sources call "an offer he couldn't refuse."

When $2.5 Million Isn't Enough Connection

The bespoke Speedtail, delivered to Khoshbin in 2021, wasn't just another limited-production hypercar. It was VIN 024 of 106 total Speedtails – a number specifically chosen to honor Charles-Émile Hermès and the fashion house's iconic Paris address.

After purchase, Khoshbin sent the car directly to Hermès for complete interior customization. The result? A rolling showcase of French luxury with:

  • Hermès Blue exterior with silver 'H' graphics adorning the lower door sections
  • Two-tone Vintage Brown and cream leather interior handcrafted by Hermès artisans
  • Matching bespoke Hermès luggage set

Despite being widely regarded as the most expensive and luxurious Speedtail ever produced, the car failed to capture Khoshbin's heart.

All Show, No Soul

"It just didn't do it for me under the hood," Khoshbin reportedly stated. The 1,036 hp hybrid hypercar suffered from wireless charger issues that were eventually resolved, but the damage was done.

Every time he walked past it, the car failed to ignite the passion that his other hypercars – particularly his McLaren P1 – consistently delivered.

Performance Without Personality

On paper, the Speedtail is an engineering marvel. The petrol-electric hybrid powertrain rockets the car from 0-186 mph in 12.8 seconds with a top speed of 250 mph.

But numbers don't create connection. And connection is what separates cars you own from cars you love.

Fashion Over Function

The Speedtail Hermès Edition represents the ultimate intersection of automotive engineering and haute couture. But when the novelty wears off, you're left with a car that either speaks to you or doesn't.

For Khoshbin, it simply didn't. The car is now headed to Japan, where its new owner will discover whether $2.5+ million buys both exclusivity and emotional attachment.

Some cars you collect. Others you connect with. This Speedtail, despite its French fashion pedigree, fell firmly into the former category.
