The collaboration between Yuji Fujitsuka’s Number Nine Works and Ryuhei Ishimaru’s Fortmarei design firm tackles the electric ZZ’s most distinctive visual element: those large, round lamps housed in angular pods that screamed 1990s racing prototype. The Sweep 9 replaces them with slim upper LED headlamp units and smaller lower elements containing turn signals and secondary lighting.
Think less Gran Turismo concept car, more Tesla Roadster’s sophisticated cousin. The result channels Porsche’s Cayenne EV and Mission R design language while maintaining the ZZ’s compact mid-engine proportions.
Engineering a Legal Fantasy
This isn’t just a styling exercise—the team engineered the Sweep 9 to meet current passenger car safety standards.
The developers describe their work as “a sophisticated development process, utilizing 3D data for meticulous legal simulations,” according to Wheelfront coverage. That’s engineering speak for creating something that could theoretically roll off a production line tomorrow, even though only one exists.
The mechanical package remains unchanged: 305 horsepower from the rear-mounted electric motor, sub-1-ton curb weight, and the same chassis architecture that made the original electric ZZ a pocket rocket when it launched in 2014.

GreenLord Motors and Tommykaira officially ceased electric ZZ production in June 2021, ending a brief but memorable run for Japan’s answer to the Lotus Elise.
